Holiday Gift Guide: Get Moving with Sesame Street TV Kinect #seizingfamilytime #giftguide [Giveaway ends 12/20]

Many of you reading this post probably rarely sit with your toddler at the family desktop or laptop computer. Your toddler might play a game on your phone or tablet or even on the TV with a game system. You are beside them helping them when they got stuck. Cheering when they play a game. But, likely your toddler doesn’t sit on the family desktop playing a game. Little ones lack the fine motor development to manipulate the mouse. Much less sit still and play a game. They are too kinetic. Too apt to move in big ways. Sitting at the family desktop to play a computer game can be too limiting and often downright frustrating.

Not too many years ago, my then-toddler loved two things in equal amounts…Sesame Street and playing on the computer. Her two loves were ever on her mind. If I told her that she could watch her Sesame Street ABCs DVD her face would light up. She wasn’t much of a TV watcher, but the Sesame Street characters caught her attention. Computer games were another passion of hers. On a trip to Costco she spied a Sesame Street computer game for preschoolers. She was one of those kids who was an early picture reader. She could spot a logo or a sign a mile off and know instantly what it was. I was skeptical about buying the Sesame Street computer game, but the toddler and her Dad were a force to be reckoned with.

That. Game. Was. Frustrating. My toddler would wake up from her nap and start chattering about Elmo and Cookie and Zoe. While she napped I worked on freelance editorial work. Back then we only had one computer…no laptop…no smartphone…no tablet…no game systems. It was like living in the Stone Age! After working for a couple of hours, the LAST thing I wanted to do was to help my daughter play that computer game. Frustrating doesn’t begin to describe it. We made it work…she enjoyed playing the game…even though I did all the moving of the mouse…and I often cut off our play session after about 15 minutes when I was tired of staring at the computer, holding my daughter on my lap, and moving the mouse around. Today’s toddlers and their parents don’t have these headaches when it comes to playing games. For the record, I was the one with the headaches, not my smiley, Sesame Street-obsessed daughter. But you know what I mean, I am sure.

A new game system was introduced about a year ago and it is awesome. My teen received the XBox 360 with Kinect as a birthday gift. We’re all about Seizing Family Time in the Musings from Me household and the Kinect is the perfect family game night game. I’m not a gamer but even I “bust a move” from time to time. My big kids love the Kinect and so does my little kid. We can play as family or with a friend or alone.

We’ve been reviewing some Kinect games over the past few months. And let me say that these games are AWESOME. No controller. The Kinect sits on top of the TV. The Kinect reads movements large and small. The games are usually easy to start. I was sent the Sesame Street TV for Kinect game to review. Since no one in the house is young enough for the game, I’m going to give the game away to a lucky reader. Giveaway details are below.
