The Musings from Me family LOVES books. In fact this past week, we have sorted through books, books, and more books. My husband and I sorted through college textbooks for me and graduate school texts for him. Though it pained both of us, purging was necessary and we now have a small stack of books to be donated. I also tackled our main bookshelves to sort and sift through books we won’t ever read again and duplicate books. I’ll donate these books, too. While I left these two major purges until only recently, I am more up-to-date with sorting through the kids’ book shelves.
The kids, like Mom and Dad, have amassed books upon books upon books. The books are housed on shelves, on desktops, on nightstands, and under beds. Books are everywhere! Every six months or so I purge books from the oldest’s room to give to the middle, and then I do the same with the middle’s books to find books that the youngest will read. I pull the biggest collection of books we no longer need from the youngest as he is a good reader who sometimes likes books that his sisters loved and sometimes does not. Any books we no longer need are taken to a local consignment store or donated. I CANNOT throw a book out…I must find a home for our beloved books!
Every so often a book comes in to our home that we all read. Two such books were by the author of the Captain Underpants series…Dav Pilkey…The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby and Super Diaper Baby 2 The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers. The books were a hoot. You can read our review here. So you can imagine how tickled I was when I was asked if my son and I would review a new book in the Captain Underpants series. I didn’t have to be asked twice!
The Kid started reading the latest Captain Underpants book before he and his dad and older sister drove to Richmond, VA, for his sister’s volleyball tournament. He read the bulk of this book — Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers — while he was in Richmond. Since volleyball tournaments are long my husband or I have our son bring a bag of “stuff to keep busy.” He packed his own bag this time with his Nintendo DS and a few games, his iPod, the new Captain Underpants book, and a sketchpad and pencils.
When he returned from Richmond, I sat down with the Kid to find out about the book. I haven’t read it yet, but hope to read it soon. Before the “interview” I wrote down some questions I knew that I wanted to ask him. He added a few questions of his own. We did the video interview and book review last night just before the Super Bowl started.
This latest installment by Dav Pilkey in the Captain Underpants series — Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers — is a chapter book with many, many hilarious illustrations. The book comes with Flip-o-Rama glasses to enjoy the “world famous cheesy animation technique that lets you animate the action.”
So before I show you my son’s video interview and book review, let’s catch up on what is happening in this new book. In the last installment of the series heroes — George and Harold — were turned in to evil zombie nerds and sent back in time. In the latest installment — Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers –– our heroes must figure out how to change the path of history to go back home. Will they succeed? Will our heroes change the course of time? What are Robo-Boxers anyway? You’ll have to read the book to find out! But, first here’s what my son wants you to know about the book.
